I’ve recently been thinking of man, his condition, his nature, his behavior. Lately there’s been a lot of talk of war. War means death. Death is the end of life. That is how much we know. That we’re born, we live, we love, we hate, we laugh, we cry, and then finally, after much living and loving and hating, after being children, playing learning. Then growing up into a world, a world not created by us, not imagined by us, not probably what we hoped, we come to be no more, and die. The problem is that our parents, mom and dad, papa y mama, as we know them, didn’t create then either, they as well as us were brought into this world as it was then, as we know come to understand the world as it is now.

The world is now as it has never been before. Of course in the past there might have occurred events similar to the ones happening now. The falling of the markets, the tensions between countries, the inventions, the novelties, it’s happened before, in someone’s time, just that in a different way. Today is different, from it was before, from what it will be tomorrow. Upon us lie great challenges, great responsibilities. I believe that today’s leaders belonged to a generation, influenced of course by its predecessors, accordingly with their socio-economic status and what not, but the point is that at some point ones laid aside, as others stepped up, sometimes continuing and carrying on there predecessor’s wishes, others defying the status quo, and changing things. Changing the orders and the ideas and the rules for good sometimes, in other cases not. Changing reality. I hope to be wrong in worrying and speculating as I do. Perhaps it would be better to write of other things, such as love and hate. What are these feelings? States of mind? Perspectives at a certain time? Opinions? But all of these are included in the prior subjects. War. Makes men kill men. Our country is a violent, as is our world, and our tribes, and our primitive ancestors, as is our history. What is it a man feels when he kills another. When he takes another’s life. I don’t wish to find out. I’ve had terrible thoughts. Well not terrible, just sad I guess. Sad because I like to believe we’ve reached such level of reason, of common sense if you will, of culture, of love, of compassion, of will to live and let live, that we would not tolerate as a nation, as a continent, as a race, a war to break out within us, against us, against ourselves, brothers and sisters. What if it would change the world order. What if each country brought in its ally and each team gathered strength and soon a side of things, a point of view, a way of life, would challenge the other to see who would destroy the world first. There’s been plenty of fiction about it of course, but then again there’s also history, of destroyed nations, of cities torn apart, of generations affected by the unforgiving memory of a giant mushroom looking cloud in the sky. But as I said, I believe the present is different from things that are no more, today a world war would mean perhaps the destruction of the world, or what’s left of it, for stupid reasons. For being unable to understand. For being incapable of realizing that all of us, deep down, are one.

Time goes by, but how to go about it? Make things happen, moments occur, or on the contrary wait, observe, anxiously expect what’s coming? Go with the flow, perhaps.
